The reason why we normally do not purchase investment diamonds

Investment diamonds are diamonds certified according to international gemmological standards; the corresponding certificate number is either lasered into the stone or the diamond is set in a protective Plexiglas cover such that it can be readily matched with the associated certificate.

We do not believe that diamonds are well suited as an investment or speculation object for private individuals since the difference between the purchase price of a diamond and its sale price later on is too large.

Also, private buyers immediately lose the 19% VAT paid in Germany when purchasing such a stone. The chance that the diamond gains so much in value as to compensate for these "losses at sale" are so low that we strongly recommend against purchasing diamonds as an investment.

For diamonds there are no reliable, independent price lists for purchase or sale comparable to the market rates for precious metals. So when trading in diamonds, the reputation and honesty of the purchaser or seller is of critical importance.

Diamonds are beautiful gemstones that are best used to adorn the person wearing them - the jewellery brings joy each and every day, and during times of financial hardship they can be readily sold. Even when personal tastes change and a piece of jewellery no longer pleases the owner, it always carries a material value independent of the fashion of the day.

For the reasons explained above, we are not very much interested in purchasing shrink-wrapped investment diamonds since we sell purchased diamonds to jewellers as jewellery stones rather than selling them as investment gemstones. We therefore prefer stones set in jewellery, removed stones and loose diamonds without a certificate.
